I’m Coming Out: A Call for Women in Ministry to Step Beyond the Walls

Over the course of this past year or so, God has been dealing with me deeply about something. It has been sitting heavy on my heart, and I could not ignore it. Evangelism today does not look like what we see in the Bible. It does not reflect the early church.

When I look around, I see influence everywhere. Social media has become a place where voices are shaping culture, behavior, and thought patterns. At the same time, within the church, calendars are filled with events. Conferences, gatherings, revivals, and services are constantly happening.

And if we are honest, many of us as women in ministry are caught in between. We are showing up, serving, attending, supporting, building, and pouring out. But in the midst of all of that, there is still a question that lingers in our spirit.

Is there more?

When Ministry Becomes Movement Without Mission

As women in ministry, it is easy to stay active but not actually be aligned with the assignment. We can find ourselves moving from one thing to the next, showing up where we are needed, supporting what is being built, and still feel a disconnect when it comes to reaching people outside of the church.

There is nothing wrong with serving inside the house. But we were never called to only stay inside the house.

When Jesus chose to go through Samaria, it was intentional. That route was not the popular choice. It was not the comfortable choice. It was the assignment. Over 700 years of division separated Jews and Samaritans, yet Jesus chose to go where others would avoid. He went because there was someone there who needed Him.

And I believe that same question is being presented to us today.

Are we willing to go where it is uncomfortable to fulfill the mission?

The Samaritan Woman: After the Encounter

In John chapter 4, we often focus on who the Samaritan woman was before Christ or even how she encountered Him. But what stands out most is what she did after.

The Bible says she left her water jar and went back to the village, telling everyone about Jesus. She did not stay at the well. She did not keep the moment to herself.

She moved. That moment reveals something powerful. Her encounter with Jesus produced action.

As women in ministry, we have had encounters with God. We have experienced His presence, His voice, His power. But the question is, what are we doing after the encounter? Are we carrying it back to people, or are we keeping it within the walls?

Your Calling Is Clear

We often seek clarity about purpose, especially as women who carry responsibility in ministry. But the truth is, our purpose has always been clear. We are called to know Christ and to make Him known.

Everything we do in ministry must flow from that. Not from position, not from title, not from visibility, but from relationship. If our work is not flowing from relationship, we can find ourselves doing ministry without truly fulfilling the mission.

You Were Never Called to Stay Hidden

Many women in ministry have been hiding. Not hiding from people, but hiding in plain sight.

Hiding your voice.

Hiding your boldness.

Hiding the fullness of who God has called you to be.

You are serving, but you are still holding back. You are present, but not fully expressed. There is a part of you that knows you are called to more, but fear, doubt, or even past experiences have caused you to shrink.

At the same time, there is a boldness already inside of you. You can feel it. You know it is there. And this is the tension many women in ministry are living in right now.

Your Testimony Is Not Optional

The Samaritan woman said, “He told me everything I ever did,” and that alone caused people to come and see for themselves.

Your testimony carries weight.

As women in ministry, we often focus on teaching, leading, and serving, but sometimes we overlook the power of simply sharing what God has done in our own lives. Your story is not just a part of your past. It is a tool for someone else’s breakthrough.

People may never attend a service. They may never open a Bible. But they will encounter you. And when they do, they should encounter the evidence of Jesus working in your life.

Ministry That Reaches Beyond the Walls

Jesus did not begin with correction when He met the woman at the well. He began with connection. He engaged her, spoke with her, and built a moment of trust.

This is how real ministry happens outside the walls.

It happens in conversations. It happens in relationships. It happens in everyday moments that we often overlook.

As women in ministry, we must be intentional about:

• Building authentic relationships with people who do not know Christ

• Being present enough to listen and understand their lives

• Allowing everyday conversations to open doors for spiritual truth

This is where influence truly happens.

Understanding Your Role

It is important to remember that you are not responsible for saving anyone. That is God’s role. Your responsibility is to be obedient and available.

You are called to plant. You are called to water. God will give the increase.

Every conversation, every moment of kindness, every act of obedience matters more than you realize.

There Is Still a Harvest

The Bible says the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. That is still true today.

There are people who are ready to receive the gospel. They do not need another event. They do not need another production.

They need Jesus. And God is looking for women who are willing to go beyond what is comfortable and step into the work.

This Is Your Season to Come Out

This is the season for women in ministry to come out.

To come out of hiding.

To come out of fear.

To come out of limitation.

To come out and fully walk in who God has called you to be. Not partially. Not quietly. Not when it is convenient. But boldly. This is not about attention. It is about obedience. This is not about performance. It is about assignment.

God is calling you to reveal your authentic self in Him. Your identity is rooted in Christ alone. It is not shaped by culture, opinions, or past experiences.

Practical Ways to Walk This Out

If you are wondering how to begin, start with simple obedience in your everyday life.

• Be intentional about starting real conversations

• Lead with kindness and allow your life to reflect Christ

• Look for opportunities to serve and build genuine relationships

You do not have to force anything. You simply have to be willing.

Call to Action

If this message spoke to you, do not keep it to yourself.

Share this with another woman in ministry who needs the reminder that it is time to come out of hiding, step beyond the walls, and fully walk in the mission God has given her.
