What does tomorrow mean to you? Do you use it as an excuse to put something off that you really don’t feel like doing? Maybe it is just another day to keep walking the mundane path you have been following. The word of God tells us not to worry about tomorrow because today has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34)
The various thoughts of tomorrow left me pondering a few things. Do we even think about tomorrow or just take things a day at a time?
One of my favorite quotes pretty much sums up how we should see “tomorrow”.
“If you aren’t going to be better tomorrow than you were today then what do you need tomorrow for?”
The moment I read this quote a bright light bulb went off in my head and that light has remained shining. Tomorrow serves no purpose to us if we are not willing to make some form of improvement each day. We are not made to stay where we are. We are made to grow, not just our bodies but our mind and spirit. We are made for a unique and great purpose. We can’t reach that purpose and the blessings that will follow if we do not take the steps needed to grow.
When was the last time you sat down to write an action plan for change for each day? Yes, I said action plan.
From personal experience, I can tell you that just “thinking” about what you want to do will never work. You have to write it down! You have to be willing to take the time to decide where you want to go and how you are going to get there. This includes the changes you need to make personally in order to make it happen.
Goals are not reached by just physical tasks but also purposeful attention to your personal growth. What we achieve is based on where we stand. Each day should set the tone for your tomorrow. If you don’t do so well today, try again tomorrow. No matter what, promise yourself that you will improve each day even if it is just one percent. That is better than no change at all! You don’t have to magically change overnight. Honestly, you won’t change overnight.
I do struggle sometimes with focusing on my personal growth and the changes I need to make. It isn’t always easy, but I already see the blessings and benefits of each little change. You will likely have days that you just want to throw in the towel and leave things the way they are because it is easier. Then you will get mad at yourself for giving up. Oh, what an emotional rollercoaster it can be but don’t quit!
The quote about tomorrow has become my sounding board when I begin to struggle to make changes. There is no point in continuing through life if it is all going to stay the same. We aren’t here just to repeat a cycle over and over again. Oh, but so many of us do just that. It is like we are stuck in the spin cycle of a washing machine, constantly running around like crazy but never really getting anywhere. Living life like that is very tiring and emotionally debilitating.
Don’t be afraid to take the time to work on you. It is not anything you should feel guilty about. I think we feel like if we stop to take care of us then we are neglecting someone else. However, if you don’t take the time for yourself you will be no good to anyone else in the end.
Be an ambassador for yourself and not just others. Take the time each day to renew your strength, grow your mind and heart, and don’t waste the time you have been given today.
