"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."- Confucius
This quote impacted me in such a profound way years ago and it stands as an anthem in my life even now. I would seek employment, but I never considered if I would like the job or not.
After all, it wasn't about liking the job, it was more about get the bills paid. I hadn't discovered who God created me to be so I worked odd jobs. The most frustrating thing was I would work these jobs and still not have enough to make ends meet.
When I saw this quote, something happened in my heart. I wasn't doing what I loved, I was just working these jobs just to get by. How much longer would I stay stuck in this, "you gotta do what you gotta do" mentality? Will I ever have a chance to really choose a job I loved? Yes!
I became curious about my purpose in life. What was I passionate about? What do I love to do the most? What would I do in this life even if I am not compensated to do it?
Those three questions led me on a journey of discovering what educational endeavors or career path I should pursue as opposed to just applying for a job. I had to believe that I could actually put my passion into a position. The years that I just worked a job was so miserable and unfulfilling.
This quote served as a guiding light for me to break an unhealthy mentality that would have led me further away from God's plan for my life. I begin to look for positions that would afford me the opportunity to do what I love.
When you are pursuing your purpose and passion it doesn't feel like work, it just feels right. I have chosen a job I love, and I will never work a day in my life.
