CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN?

As I was driving, the rain drops began to hit my windshield. They were constant and extremely forceful. I could barely see where I was going so I pulled over to the side and waited. I was a bit frustrated because I had places to be, but unless I wanted the possibility of a wreck, it was a must that I waited.

Are you experiencing a storm in your life right now? Sometimes trying situations and unforeseen circumstances keep you from moving forward. At times the weight of the constant troubles or the consistency of the pouring rain in our lives can cause us to give up.

It brings us pain, heartache, confusion and doubt. We have all of these plans, goals, and dreams that we want to accomplish. We push for the finish line and become frustrated when the storm comes because it puts a halt to us reaching our destiny.

The question becomes…”Why?”. Why is this happening to me? I was so close to my destination. I already jumped over hurdles and overcame obstacles. It looked like I would make it this time. Why is this happening? There are a few reasons why things may not be moving in what you “think” to be your favor.

He defeats you with the parts of you that are already broken, even if you are in the mending process.

The enemy is real and very busy! He will always attempt to hold you back from your calling from God. He doesn’t want you to succeed. It does not benefit him if you walk in the wholeness of who God created you to be. So he brings trial after trial after trial to be sure that doesn’t happen. He defeats you with the parts of you that are already broken, even if you are in the mending process. For this reason, you have to know where your help comes from! If you can’t depend on anyone else in your life to give you sound advice or uplift, you can always count on God.

We do not want to succumb to the enemy and allow him to win. He attacks you because he knows what type of threat you will be when you are complete in the Lord. Do you want to assist him with your destruction or will you kick him to the curb and handle your problems like the true child of God that you are? PLEASE read Psalms 121 in it’s entirety to see how much the Lord has you back!

I will quote a piece here.

Psalms 121:1-3 “I look up to the mountains - does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.” NLT

You are moving in your will and not in the will of God. At times we push for what we think is best for our lives without consulting God. It may be the best dream you have ever envisioned…a plan that you feel will be sure to bring you success. Without God, however, there is no true success. Without God there is confusion and doubt. It may seem that all things are as they should be, but eventually there will be a fall or either you will never reach your fullest potential.

At times in order for God to keep you from wrecking your life, the storm has to come.

We don’t even really know what our fullest potential entails until we place him at the head of our life. At times in order for God to keep you from wrecking your life, the storm has to come. The road has to become unclear so you can plug into the source. Once this is done, you will be directed down a path that was made especially for you and there will be no ifs, ands or buts about your final destination.

Proverbs 16:3 “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” NLT

You are moving in God’s will, but it’s just not time yet. As a human race, we can definitely be impatient. What does that commercial say, “I want it and I want it NOW!”? That’s how we tend to handle our lives at times. We want the success NOW. We want the marriage NOW! We want the job NOW! Well the now won’t necessarily bring you longevity. If you rush into his plans for your life they could be ruined. Everything happens at it’s designated time, and you may not know when that is. And that’s ok!

You may “think” you can handle what he has for you, but he knows whether you are prepared or not. I did a series on overcoming a negative mentality called “Fight For Your Mind”, and I talked about how God wants to bless us with way more than what meets the eye. He may have given you a glimpse of what your future looks like but believe me, there is so much that he hasn’t shown you yet. He is not going to put you in a position to fail, so sometimes we have to go through the storm to get prepared for the blessings we are about to receive.

God has to be sure that he can trust you with where you are now before he can give you what he has for you in it’s totality.

We have to be hurt, depressed, betrayed, and frustrated. We have to lean on our source and handle the situations with grace, love, and forgiveness. We learn from these experiences. We learn how to pull through and who is beside us through it all (God). The most important lesson is that we learn that we can pull through, even though in the midst of the storm it seems impossible. So your current struggles are not wrecking your life. That rain is cultivating strength, hope, joy, and peace. It is preparing you for your NEXT. God has to be sure that he can trust you with where you are now before he can give you what he has for you in it’s totality.

Galatians 6:9 “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” NLT

So to sum it all up, the storm can be extremely tough to get through. The rain can come down so heavily that it could cause us to wreck. However before that happens, God will pull us over to the side of the road as he clears a path for us. Before the enemy can break you or before you can break yourself, God will intervene. The question is, “Once he pulls me over to the side of this road, will I wait? Or will I drive off and take my chances?" We must have faith in the Lord and all that he does, even when it doesn’t make much sense to us. There is a reason for all that we endure. If he slows us down and pulls us over, there is a reason. Let’s show our faith strong! Let’s wait on the Lord and trust him! He will not lead us wrong!

Psalms 37:7 “Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.” (First Portion NLT)

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” NLT
